“I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens, Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance, I hope you dance, I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, Never settle for the path of least resistance, Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they’re worth takin’, Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’, Don’t let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter, When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider, Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance.”⠀

When my son was younger, he would literally dance anytime there was music playing. This picture was taken during one of the breaks between sets of one of my team’s games. He was entertaining an entire arena full of people as he danced with our mascot to the music. It reminds me of how I want to always choose to lead.⠀

Because life isn’t always easy or fair, it can be easy to get jaded or to start to believe we can’t make things change for the better. Even worse, it can lead us to focusing on the things we can’t control (an injury, administrative decisions, the reactions of others, etc.) and lead to a sense of helplessness, fear, and even anger. If we remember to keep the wonder and belief that anything is possible and focus only on what is in our control, we have more chance for success AND a much greater chance of enjoying the journey. By ‘choosing to dance’ rather than sit it out, we fully embrace the possibilities and put ourselves in a position for the possibility of success.⠀

What is one area where you can choose to dance this week?
