“Team culture is made up of the values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours shared by a team. It’s how people work together towards a common goal and how they treat each other.” ~Alana Brajdic⠀

Every team is in pursuit of the elusive thing known as a positive team culture. It’s one of those things that can be hard to define but oh so easy to identify when you see it. A strong team culture allows a team to stretch and grow in ways that are impossible without a high level of trust and buy in. It is not something that comes easily, and it often feels like it can be destroyed in a moment. So, what are the most critical components?⠀
-⠀
First, team members must be invested in each other and in the team as a whole. They must be willing to be vulnerable and own their mistakes.⠀
-⠀
Second, team members must see the team as something bigger than themselves and something that is worth sacrificing to support.⠀
-⠀
Third, team members must believe in their leader and be willing to follow when things get difficult or uncertain, all while feeling confident that they can always speak up and be heard.⠀
-⠀
Finally, team members must be willing to hold both themselves and their teammates accountable to the team’s values and agreed upon behaviors.⠀

Over the years, I have been blessed to lead programs from varying degrees of dysfunctional team cultures to team cultures that yielded championships and lifelong friendships. It definitely is not an easy task, but it is so very worth it in the end.
