A couple of years ago, I had the privilege of spending a few days learning from Marine Corps officers about leadership. It was an incredibly humbling experience to say the least.⠀

One of my greatest takeaways was how important the concept of team is to the Marines. Most of us have heard the mantra, “No marine left behind,” but until you rub shoulders with these brave men and women it is hard to truly understand how much they mean it. In the bleakest of moments, they will not leave a fellow Marine behind.⠀

There is a lot we can learn from this core belief of the Marines. First, none of us are more important than any of the rest of us. Second, we are always stronger when we face battles together. Third, knowing we can depend on those on our team to have our back in the worst situations will allow us to go to extreme measures to accomplish the mission.⠀

From your perspective what are the things that make teams stray from this ideal? How do we overcome them?
