“A good team, like a good show, comes into being when the separate individuals working together create, in essence, another separate higher entity – the team – the show – which is better than any of those individuals can ever be on their own.” ~Gary David Goldberg⠀

I thought I’d throw it back to my freshman college team. This group of women is remarkable in so many ways. There are doctors (5 of those!), lawyers, professors, business women, moms, and coaches in this group. One is sadly no longer with us. However, what makes them the most remarkable is what they overcame and the foundation they laid for the women who came after them. In addition, the bond that we share, even after all of these years, is irreplaceable.⠀

We may have been a rag tag looking bunch by today’s standards of fancy gear, but what jumps out to me is the connectedness in this picture. Arms around shoulders, leaning on each other to be something greater than the sum of our parts. We didn’t have a lot of success that season, but we laid the foundation for a team who just three years later would be the most successful team in school history for a long time. This group made that possible through their courage, their resilience, and their willingness to put team before self. For me, this picture represents all that is good about team sports and how powerful the idea of team can be in making a positive impact in our world.⠀
